If there is no NFL season this year, then we are not keeping the same draft order for the 2021 draft, so we need to come up with an alternative. Auction?

i like the idea of how we could get creative here. What if we did a draft lottery, similar to the NBA? The challenge is how we handle the 5 new teams which dont have draft positions...

I have no idea what the answer here is.

Honestly, the easiest thing to do would just do a random drawing of 24 names.

I think the better thing to think about is what we do if there is an abbreviated season. What if it's a 10 or 12 game regular season?

Also, John, this thread title d**n near killed me. Maybe throw a "What if there's.." or a question mark on that pregnant dog.

I think you'd have to do a random drawing, but do some sort of modified snake draft, like 1-24, 24-1, 24-1, 1-24.

Having to do a snake draft next season would really screw up any trade involving future draft picks. All of a sudden an early 2nd rounder becomes a late second rounder? That’d be wild.
If there’s no fantasy season this year for us to set an order for next year, we could do some sort of scale for win percentage over past 5 seasons. That way the teams that are consistently bad would have a better chance of improving. However, not sure how that would affect the new teams that just had the redraft.
Another thought, draft slots could be awarded in sequential order to the first people to contract AND recover from coronavirus. Let’s see how badly people want that top pick.

Niall, I think I understand the rationale here and I think I agree with it, but could you expand on this bit for reference for everyone else? Swanny and I have been talking over what we need to do here and when and I'd like to get some info and or decision points out to the league asap if we can. It would help to get some follow up on this idea if you can. rg

Why would it not be the same draft order?

I think we should put a quarantine trading 2021 draft picks until we figure out if the NFL is going to have a season and what we are going to do with out 2021 draft. That way everyone will still have their same draft picks and we can just adjust the order if necessary. Probably need to vote on this immediately.

Why would it not be the same draft order? Because you have would 2 drafts in a row where the order is the same without a season in between to have records that would adjust the order... basically extremely benefits those that are at the beginning of the draft and hurts those at the end.

There is no good solution here, but I think random drawing with some.sort of modified snake draft (as Niall alluded to) makes the most sense.
I think just keeping this year's draft order makes the most sense behind the the idea above (I could be convinced it's better than too), but there is the problem of how to slot the 5 guys that are new and dont have a set slot for this year so that would have to be figured out if we went that way.

If we do a random drawing for a 2021 snake draft, then we need to prevent 2021 picks being traded until we decide to or not to do that.
