Per the rule discussion thread, this rule change attempts to put the league more in parallel with the recent NFL IR changes.
Proposed language for league review:
Injured Reserve List
Only players placed on the NFL Physically Unable to Perform (PUP), Injured Reserve (IR), Reserve/Non-football Injury (NFI) and Reserve/Non-Football Illness (NFI) lists are eligible to be placed on IR. Once assigned to IR, players must remain on IR for a minimum of 4 weeks (28 calendar days). Players may remain on IR longer, up to and including the remainder of the league year.
After a minimum 4 week stay, players may be activated for a team’s active roster. Owners are expected to ensure that rosters remain compliant with active roster maximum limits upon activation. When activating a player, owners shall post in that year’s “Activated IR Players” thread at the FF Warroom league site notifying the league of said activation. Activating a player shall make that IR slot reusable at the owner’s discretion for other eligible players.
A maximum of 8 IR activations may be assigned by a team in any one season. The commissioner shall track each team’s activations in the opening post at the aforementioned message board thread. Any one player may be assigned to and activated from a team’s IR s maximum of two times in a season. Each activation of any one player shall be counted as separate and independent activations for the purposes of counting maximum allowable season activations.
This rule shall supersede any previous IR designation, activation or other rule language that contradicts its terms.

Seems like IR is getting a bit complicated and also will require you as Commish to track some things potentially.
Would we consider an overhaul?
We could simplify by doing away with IR slots and either increasing Active roster slots or Taxi Squad slots, right?
Basically could do a one-time draft or auction of FAs this offseason to fill out the additional slots, or something similar.

Basically could do a one-time draft or auction of FAs this offseason to fill out the additional slots, or something similar. That’s another line of thought. I don’t know how many roster spots we’d add. It would simplify team management, which IMO makes it less fun but that’s just me. It would also allow stockpiling for teams that don’t have a lot of injuries, so I see pluses and minuses. As far as extra work, the mfl site does all the tracking except number of activations, which would be a cut & paste for me to the OP of the thread once an owner posts, so that’s fairly simple. Good ideas though and definitely worthy of discussion. Good job.

I think it sounds good but it will be tough to track 8 possible IR activations per team and potentially people forgetting to post about it.
You could simplify it and just change the time on IR to 4 weeks and then not limit the activations. it seems unlikely to me that many people will have 8. That would make it less work for you.
But i like the change, just up to you if you want to have to track it or not.

I think the proposal is fine, allowing a little more flexibility. I guess I just never understood having a limit on how many times a player can be brought back. If someone is hurt that much/often, they're not likely to be effective. I'm probably picking nits.

Kind of agree that having the commish track something isn't the best approach. I agree with def that I'm not sure I see owners somehow getting some great advantage being able to activate more than a set number of times. What if we just left it like this:
Injured Reserve List
Only players placed on the NFL Physically Unable to Perform (PUP), Injured Reserve (IR), Reserve/Non-football Injury (NFI) and Reserve/Non-Football Illness (NFI) lists are eligible to be placed on IR. Once assigned to IR, players must remain on IR for a minimum of 4 weeks (28 calendar days). Players may remain on IR longer, up to and including the remainder of the league year.

When activating a player, owners shall post in that year’s “Activated IR Players” thread at the FF Warroom league site notifying the league of said activation. Activating a player shall make that IR slot reusable at the owner’s discretion for other eligible players. There can only be a maximum of 4 players on IR at any one time.

If we don’t want to track limited activations and just make activations unlimited with a minimum 4 week stay that’s fine with me.

If we don’t want to track limited activations and just make activations unlimited with a minimum 4 week stay that’s fine with me. Unlimited movement back and forth just seems like it would lead to my suggestion... just do away with IR and 4 more active spots. Done.

I like the more limited nature of IR versus adding more roster spots personally.

Ok I don’t really have any preference, just trying to simplify if we can.

It looks like we may have a consensus on the language with the removal of the 8 player activation limit.
I’ll put the new rule up for a vote.
