Back by exactly zero demand...
Last year's Draft Grades and Awards, courtesy of our very own TOCOL Draft ANALyzer, proved hugely popular when it garnered at least 4 Views (ok, popular by this forum's admittedly basement-level standards). So I decided to plug this year's draft results into the new and improved 2022 ANALyzer and see how we all did.
Without further adieu... {drumroll}
Class Rankings
1. Gringo (A+)
The ANALyzer loved the WR selections of Drake London and Tyquan Thornton. London can't get separation and Thornton can't run routes, but at least they are both big WRs I guess? The ANALyzer also considers Danny Gray a solid sleeper WR, giving Gringo the most valuable WR class in the 2022 TOCOL Draft. Interestingly enough, it did not dislike a single pick he made... and I am already convinced this thing is broken again this year.
2. Alcoholic Haze (A-)
The ANALyzer projects Breese Hall to be BY FAR the best player in this class. It actually considers him so valuable that despite Darkman's other 7 picks yielding negative total value, he still ends up with the 2nd best overall class. The definition of a one player class.
3. Grand Island Khunts (B+)
Another class carried by their WR selections, as Garrett Wilson and Jalen Tolbert were both considered solid values. The only other player with any positive value in the class was Pierre Strong. Troy Anderson was considered a slight reach (although I disagree... he might be one of the top D players in this class IMO) and the rest of the class was considered adequate at best with the dude even MFL had not heard of being the one exception. WTF is a Bryan Koback anyway?
4. Pittsburgh Plunge (B)
Plunge put together a solid draft, with 3 value picks and no picks that were considered major reaches among his 8 selections. Brian Robinson and Kevin Harris were both solid value picks where Plunge selected them, joining Treylon Burks and Quay Walker as solid selections. Shockingly, the selection of a PUNTER IN THE 7TH ROUND, was not considered a reach. No idea how this can be true!
6 (tie). The Foos Fighters (B-)
Rebounding from a rough draft in 2021 (again, he spent his first two selection on JETS draft picks), Foos put together a solid class this year. Although tying with TTAC in the ANALyzer's rankings might actually be more damning than finishing dead last IYAM. While 3 first round picks certainly contributed to this class ranking, the ANALyzer actually considered Foos' first round to be a mixed bag - good value with Walker, okay value with Jameson (the injury certainly adds risk here) and poor value from Skyy Moore. Overall, though, this is a solid class, highlighted by these 3 first rounders and a solid pick with LB Devin Lloyd plus a high upside RB in Allgeier in the 3rd. Nice job Foos. Also, you stole my CB target in the 7th, for whatever that is worth!
6 (tie). LunaTTAC Fringe (B-)
TTAC having a more valuable draft than me is 100% confirmation that this stupid ANALyzer tool remains completely broken. Unlike last year, his class isn't propped up by the likes of Pitts and Harris, either. As a matter of fact, he finished this high despite zero first round picks this year. The ANALyzer likes the pick of WR Alec Pierce, who has received nothing but rave reviews so far, and RB Kyren Williams, although I have no idea why on this one. He's terrible and buried on the Rams depth chart as well I presume. Shockingly, Isaiah Spiller is NOT considered a reach (I disagree wholeheartedly). Not shockingly, every other player he selected is considered to have been a slight reach. That's how much this stupid thing liked his Pierce and Williams picks.
7. Brain Surgeons (C+)
A second consecutive unassuming class for the champions, perhaps largely due to trading out of the top 2 rounds in pursuit of the title. The small class was comprised of 3 RBs and 3 Defensive players. The defensive players were all considered solid, if uninspired, picks while the RBs provided a bit of value, particularly Hassan Haskins who could be a strong contributor if Henry suffers any setback. Not sure I agree with this class being ranked in the top half of the league, despite no first or second round pick, but I do think the picks in the middle rounds were all solid choices.
8. Drinking Problem (C)
Another one player class according to the ANALyzer. Chris Olave projects to be a solid NFL WR and was solid value at 1.08. The rest of the class was largely considered reaches, highlighted by Calvin Austin III in the 2nd. The ANALyzer projects Austin to contribute the equivalent value of a 5th rounder. Desmond Ridder was also a reach, albeit not as significant as Austin. Also, did anyone ever confirm if this dude's name is or is not Stryker?
9. Oregon Reign (C)
Did Forrest just let the computer auto-select every pick? Oh, wait, that's right he took D players with all of his first 6 picks (and did not have a first rounder). The one offensive player he took, Jake Ferguson, is the only pick he made that yielded any value whatsoever. Too bad it was negative value though. Every other pick was considered a solid selection, with no reaches and no steals.
10. Password is Taco (C-)
Does anyone think there is any chance that my class will rank this low? What? You do? Then piss off! The ANALyzer HATED my pick of George Pickens at 1.09. But I already admitted that was me just making a homer selection since he would not be there at 3.09 and nobody wanted to trade up in this crappy draft class. It loved my Wan'Dale Robinson pick which might be funnier than it hating the Pickens pick, truth be told. There were almost as many reasons to hate the Robinson pick as there were to like it... yet the broke ass ANALyzer loves that pick. Go figure.
11. HOPifornication (D+)
Well at least HOP did not get a high grade again this year! Unlike last year, HOP definitely did not luck his way into the top rookie QB and second-best rookie RB this year. Nope. This year was all about low value WRs (Watson and Shakir) and AMAZING defensive players. NOTE: That latter comment is my opinion since he drafted two Georgia Bulldogs on D! The ANALyzer actually considers his defensive class to be completely average, with Dean even being a slight reach based on his NFL draft position (which was much too low in hindsight). The key takeaway here really is that HOP is NOT #1 this year, thank Gawd!
12. De-Cleater (D)
Yikes! Even with WR David Bell being considered a steal, this class was a mess. John Metchie was considered a mid-to-late 2nd rounder, not late 1st. He ranks as one of the biggest reach of the early rounds according to the ANALyzer. Of course, his health issues have further exacerbated the situation. Hopefully everything works out okay for him health-wise. Along with Bell, Romeo Doubs (who?) was considered solid value. De-Cleater's other selections all yielded negative value, however.
13. Riding in my Lambeau (D-)
WTH happened here? Last year the new guy made a strong first impression with a solid rookie class. This year, not so much. It started with RB Dameon Pearce in the first round. De-Cleater can thank the new guy for selecting Pearce, as that is the only reason Metchie is not considered THE worst selection of the early rounds. SIDE NOTE: Am I the only one who still has no idea what this dude's name is despite him being in the league all year? SIDE NOTE #2: Dameon Peace played at Florida. So F him! The others largely yielded zero or slightly negative value. True story, had whatever this dude's name is not selected Dameon "crappy former Gator" Pearce, this class would have ranked approximately 4 spots higher. This despite the fact that the only selection that the ANALyzer considers to have any real positive value is Justyn Ross, who the NFL didn't bother to draft. Told y'all this thing was broken.
14. Yoda (F)
From Top 4 last year to worst of the worst this year. If Dameon Pearce was the worst first round pick (he was!), Velus Jones was certainly the worst second round pick. Jones is short, can't catch, was a better returner than WR in college, and is like 75 years old this season. In addition to the head scratcher that was Velus, Yoda reached for RB James Cook at 1.03. Presumably he felt he needed a RB after passing on Najee Harris last year for Ja'Marr Chase. Personally, I love Chase as a player. However, there can be no doubt that had he taken Harris last year and then say Garrett Wilson this season, that might look significantly better than the Cook + Chase duo. (This is a fact I mentioned to him last year when trying to trade up for that pick, for the record.) The ANALyzer did not appreciate the Dotson pick either, although I happen to really like that pick. Otherwise, the best player selected might be a CB. Not great!
