We have changed the IR rule so that IR slots are reusable - that is, if a player designated for IR is removed from the list by drop, trade, or reactivation that another eligible player may be assigned to that same slot.
Given that, I’m posting the “Designated to Return” portion of the rule prior to the season just to refresh everyone’s memory:
Players placed on IR shall be inactive for the remainder of the season with the exception of up to 2 “designated to return” designations. Players identified as designated to return must spend at least 7 weeks as inactive, after which they may be returned to the active roster under normal roster limitations. Players identified as designated to return must be identified as such when placed on the list or will not be eligible to return.[/i]
So a couple of important points:
* - If you intend to reactivate the player later in the season, they must be designated that way when they go on IR. You can only do with with 2 players in a season. IR was not intended to be a roster churning location, but rather to protect some active roster spots in the event of injuries while allowing teams to maintain ownership of injured players.
* - if you do place a player on IR Designated to Return the player must stay on IR at least 7 weeks.
Just a PSA for everyone to avoid any future confusion.

I added Theo Riddick to the IR Designated to Return - he's out 6-8 weeks with a broken wing.

I believe this is week 7 though I'm not sure on the timing. Can I bring Brees back yet?
Edit It was 9/17
